For over 2000 years Chinese health practitioners applied the concept of Qi to clinical experiments. Their observations developed into a sophisticated medical paradigm. Disease is viewed as a disruption of the body’s natural energy flow; as a pattern of disharmony within the whole person.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into the skin. Specific points are chosen that lay on channels or meridians that run along the surface of the body and limbs. Their insertion encourages the smooth flow of Qi and enables the body to harmonise the body/mind balance and restore health.

Acupuncture can fulfill the unique requirements of each individual sports person. Not only does it treat many sport related conditions such as injury, it is a very effective preventative therapy. Acupuncture strengthens tendons and ligaments by increasing elastic flexibility. This reduces the risk of injury during exercise. It encourages blood flow, thereby increasing available oxygen and nutrients to local areas, and removing waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Acupuncture can boost oxygen uptake by supporting the respiratory system and aid nutrient absorption by stimulating digestion. Both oxygen and nutrients are then metabolized into increased potential energy.
